Roses - Roses - Roses - Summer 2013

A Fallen Rose - Bonica - Photo:RandiAa©
It's August and the roses begin to fade. But they have rejoiced me through the summer this year too - Though I have not so many now that I used to have, actually 200 different varieties at most. And maybe I'm no longer so good at caring for them. Yet they are faithful to me and seem to tell me that they are still here, maybe not so exquisitely beautiful - but fallen beauties also have charm.

Fading roses, fading summer, autumn is coming, appropriate to be a little sentimental then - "The Rose" with Bette Midler will fit into this setting - (Amanda McBroom is the writer of the lyrics):
"The Rose"
Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
An endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
And you its only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
That never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
Who cannot seem to give,
And the soul afraid of dyin'
That never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love

In the spring
Becomes the rose.
