Liverpool - Revisited: Easter 2013 - Part Three

The marathon day Monday, March 25th continued after the football tour - Russell and June picked us up by car and we started our sightseeing.
Key words for today's activities were:

Starbuck base - Breakfast
Anfield - Liverpool FC tour
Viewpoint - Everton Park - Sightseeing
Sefton park - Palm house
Woolton - sigthseeing - Lunch
Shopping
Waterfront
Albert Dock
Pump House - Dinner

One and two were finished - and I left it entirely to Russell to decide where the tour should go now.
First stop was on Everton Hill in the Everton Park - a modern park from the 1980s. The name Everton is derived from a Saxon word "eofor" which means "wild boar living in forests" - so there must have been wild pigs up here.
From here we had a great view of Liverpool:

A bit cold on top of the hill, and WOW! - snow like in Norway:

Then we headed further to Sefton Park and the beautiful romantic Palm House:

Inside the Palme House blossomed the most beautiful orchids and other exotic plants - birds were chirping and singing under the glass ceiling - and the fragrance was lovely:

Then off to Woolton - A charming old village, independent until it was merged with Liverpool in 1913:

Allerton Road - a popular place for pubgoers - But we went for hot chocolate and coffee this time in Let's Eat Woolton:

After refreshments, we were ready for a round of shopping - it was especially Magnus, who was keen on renewing school garments a bit. - On the way to the shopping area of Liverpool One, we passed Victoria Monument:

After a not too exhausting shopping round, we went down to The Waterfront, for photography and dinner:

LIVERPOOL FC - ANFIELD

Monday, March 25th - a very eventful day with loads of impressions, a marathon day, do not know how we reached over everything. But we started early, and Magnus had found that our base was Starbucks in Liverpool One ... where we had our breakfast, and where we took the "night-cup" before returning to Ibis for the night.
This day should be devoted to the UK's national sport. Russell had bought tickets to the big football tour, this was of course intended for Magnus, but truly, I have to admit I enjoyed it and was converted to a Liverpool FC supporter. Absolutely!

Some impressions from the Anfield tour we had, with a funny Liverpudlian Scouse as a guide - We started out in the wardrobes - The dressing rooms were kept simple, this had two purposes: to focus on what's important - playing football, and second, in honour of the great football players of the past had managed with the simple:

Then on to the pit - or absolutely not ON to it, that was strictly forbidden:

And at the entrance, the great Bill Shanky has got his worthy place - a trophy that too:

And we left to one of my favourite pop-songs - Gerry Marsden singing You'll never walk alone - originally from a musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein. In 1992 they took the song into their club emblem, and the title is written on the famous Shankly Gates to Anfield.
