Liverpool - Part Six: The Last Day of my Stay - 31st July 2011

Sunday July 31st I had June and Russell to myself. I left it to them to decide the programme - I only put forward one condition: I should treat them with a lunch somewhere. And after some arguing, they gave in....  What has this tree got to do with it? I love trees - whereever in the world I see them, I love to take photos of them also - but I'm not good at the names - I have to consult internet or look up in the books I have got:

This tree on top was in the park of Croxteth Hall where we later had our lunch. But first we had some "missions" to full-fill.
Russells first task this morning was to trace some ancestors from the Stene "line", one was on the memorial wall in St Anthony's Catholic Church,Liverpool. We found Edward Albert Steen (Stene) - cousin of my  great grandmother Jonetta Stene Aune. He died during WWI, and his grave is in the London Rifle Brigade Cemetery, Belgium:

 

Inside the church with the Stene/Steen name on the memorial wall, I was allowed to take some pictures. (not of the  marble board with names on the wall  -  it was not quite photogenic), but here is some of the interior of the church:

Short stop by  Everton Library (beautiful building, unfortunately not well-kept) and Anfield Stadium before our next "ancestor task":

Then we went to another churchyard to search for another Stene/Wennberg grave - we had a map and a number to lead us, but it took June and Russell another day to find the spot:

Then we headed for lunch and a walk in the park at beautiful

In the wood there were some strange berries popping up from the ground, I found out afterwards, by talking to people at "Hagegal" that this must be Arum Maculatum, I know the photos could have been better....:

The rest of the day had had a little city-walk by myself, and then I had to start packing for my departure next day.

Then I had a cup of coffee at a favourite StarBuck in Liverpool One:

Next morning June and Russell picked me up at the hotel and took me to the airport - my days in Liverpool for this time had come to and end - but this stay had indeed been far above my expectations. And I look forward to my next trip to this lovely city and all the nice people I met there - I'm glad we can keep in touch on Facebook in the meantime.
