Not far from Phil's Pub, we found the very special Metropolitan Catholic Cathedral - The first stone for this modern church was laid in 1933, it was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, but a new scheme and design was added in 1960 - the wigwam style by Sir Frederic Gibbert. (In fact it is locally called Paddy's wigwam). It was completed in 1967:

We left the Cathedral and passed more worldly attractions in the neighbourhood:

Not a good picture, but still though an attraction: sculpture of nude man - he is hovering there above the main entrance of The Lewis building - a department store in Liverpool. It was made by sculptor Jacob Epsten. The name of this sculpture is Liverpool Resurgent, but locally he is "Dickie Lewis" (he,he). This is a well used meeting-place. "In My Liverpool Home" a song by Peter McGovern 1962 the text goes:
"I was born in Liverpool, down by the docks,
Me religion was Catholic, occupation hard-knocks"
………….
"We speak with an accent exceedingly rare,
Meet under a statue exceedingly bare"

The "official" Photo Walk that day had come to and end, and the company wanted to have some rest before meeting in the evening for dinner. Then I had a couple of hours to myself. On Russell's recommendation I went shopping, only he had recommended the "wrong" stores: Too much to take into consideration, I was quite confused and bewildered....took some quick decisions and made some impulse buying - I preferred some more Photo-Walking by myself in the lovely summer evening. And here is what I encountered, before I had to stop by my hotel to take a shower and change clothes:

The day was still almost hot, I felt like joining these children enjoying the sprinkling cold water from the pavement fountains in Liverpool One:

Street-life late Saturday afternoon in Liverpool One: I had a nice stroll among the Liverpudlians here. And I was happy about not seeing any drunkards, any beggars or not even any litter in the streets - Liverpool really surprised me in this way:

And Pub-Crawling Saturday night had already started:

And others preferred dinner at the fairly new Jamie's Italian:

I hurried "home" to the hotel..just in time for a quick shower, and some other clothes. Russell had given us directions to a pub he thougtht was OK for us...I brougth a small camera and troubled with Kristin, Kirsten and Robert to find the place. We passed the Town Hall on our way and had to stop for photos of course:

Eventually we found the pub Russell had decided on...we were far too late, and the others were not there....and we found out that Russell for once hadn't made the right choice for us..and now he had arrived at that conclusion himself..we made contact by mobile, and moved on from this "wrong" place - The Ship and Mitre where we did not dine:

We ended up at the La Tasca instead and had both nice food and vine and chat there:

We could see the landmark of the Radio City Tower close by:

To morrow was Sunday and my last day for this time in Liverpool...the others would have left then, and I was to spend most of the day with June and Russell...I looked forward to one more day here.
